Yusof happy son cleared
By PARVEEN GILL
KUALA LUMPUR: Movie producer Datuk Yusof Haslam has called for many press conferences during his long and distinguished career.

Yesterday’s session, however, was different. It was to explain that his son was not involved in taking drugs.

And when things got a bit “out of hand” from the hot-headed Mohd Syamsul, Yusof stepped in to offer some fatherly advice about being humble.

The 22-year-old Mohd Syamsul, an actor and film director himself, was picked up for suspected drug abuse at an entertainment outlet in Jalan Ampang on July 7.

PROVIDING PROOF: Yusof looking at the pathologist’s report clearing his son Mohd Syamsul of drug abuse.Yusof said that the laboratory test of Mohd Syamsul’s urine showed that that he had not used drugs.

Mohd Syamsul had responded sarcastically when he was asked if he had learnt anything from the episode.

“There is no lesson to be learnt from this. I was innocent then and I am still innocent now,” he retorted with his father and mother Datin Fatimah Ismail, at times in tears, seated beside him.
On hearing this, Yusof interjected, saying: “My son is young and hot-blooded.

“Since my parents were not rich, I went through hardship to get to where I am today but my children have an easy life.

“Syamsul, whatever papa is saying may make you feel uncomfortable but you should ponder on papa’s advice because you have a long road ahead of you.

“Hopefully, it is a lesson learnt for you.”
He said part and parcel of being famous was that “one is not spared the humiliation even when the allegations are false.”

Yusof added that he had never hesitated to point out mistakes committed by his four children.
He recollected the moment when actor Norman Hakim woke him up from sleep to say that Mohd Syamsul had been arrested.

“Even though he is naughty and stubborn, I know to what extent my son would go. Drug abuse is not one of them,” he said.

“Syamsul, whatever papa says is for your own good and papa has the right to speak.

“Initially, when police contacted me, I told them that if my son had abused drugs, he should face the consequence.

“Thankfully, he has been cleared of the allegation,” said Yusof, producer of the long running series Gerak Khas.

When another journalist asked Mohd Syamsul if he would continue going to pubs until the early hours of the morning, he replied: “That is my right!”

When Yusof interrupted with a stare, Mohd Syamsul coyly replied: “Kalau boleh tak pergi kot!” (If possible, maybe I would not go!)

Mohd Syamsul stressed that “whatever happened should not have happened” because he was innocent.

He asked the media to clear his family's name due to earlier reports on his arrest.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS ALL ABOUT???? Some B-grade Hollywood failure review??
