What's the deal with the skin?
Aren't we lucky to be in Malaysia? Not trying to instil any patriotic spirit or supporting the government's on-going propaganda, but isn't it such a wonderful place, rude drivers, queue-cutters, stolen signposts, buffet pillagers... But nothing ticks me off more than those people who take pride in their own so-called my-race-is-more-superior type of mentality, or those people having doubts or feel uncomfortable (or threatened, for that matter) in mingling with other races. The government's been talking about racial integrity all the while, but nothing seems to be happening. I think we're more separated racially than we are after Merdeka. I hate racist people, they're immature, unrealistic, self-centered people. I feel angry and dissapointed at these at these so-called homo sapiens.

I'm saying all these because I received a call from KLIA today about an educational site visit. I was glad that they called and felt elated that they agreed to do it on the dates I've suggested. Upon agreeing the time and place where I'll meet a maintenance engineer after talking with the person-in-charge, a malay woman, on the other end of the phone, I was asked an unexpected question. "Awak seorang saja yang melayu?" or "You're the only malay in the group?". My goodness. I replied with a yes and asked why. Then she hesitated to answer and said that her engineers might feel so uncomfortable with so many chinese and said they might turn down my request. Flabbergasted, I retaliated by saying that we're all normal people and just wanted an educational tour of their facility. I was thinking "So what? I'm in a group of people who I feel comfortable with regardless of their race and background. They are my friends, goddammit! You have a problem with that??"

I think after sensing my surprise at comfronting that question, she quickly say that it's okay, everything's under controlled and the engineers have been informed about the tour, reacting like some small kid denying that he stole a candy. Why do some people act (being racist) in such a way? Don't they know that they're living in MALAYSIA?? If they feel so threatened or scared or despise other people, who they think are not of the same blood or mind, they should then isolate themselves from the freaking world. Be a hermit, live off the forest and pick dust out of your meaningless, selfish lives. God created us and put us in different regions and develop separately with different abilities. The reason God did this to us is so that we'll learn other people's strenghts and realise our own weakness. Realising our weaknesses is a step to self-improvement. Not to despise each other and become hostile. This type of people do not deserve to live in this country or even the world. They are so narrow-minded, it makes Lorong Haji Taib look like an airport runway, metaphorically. Please lah, look into yourselves, if you're like this all the way till the end, it makes you no better than those dead dogs and cats on the roads. One day, you will lose out.

good post azreey, i totally agree the way you told the woman off, i guess 40 years isn't enough to set things straight in the minds of the previous generations. i hope everyone accepts the fact that colour doesn't display status. who knows a black african new pope? haha

yeah, racism is everywhere lah.. our own education system breeds these people, those sekolah kebangsaan n jenis kebangsaan, no offence but it does segregate us all. and the special previledges malays get every now and then not only makes them think that its easy for them to get places in local univ n buying properties, it makes them lazy, that's what is plaguing malays nowadays. this previledges is based on the past and does not apply today. how the hell are they suppose to be competitive and and at least stronger when working outside? we look too much on the past and future but we tend to forget the present. malays need to wake up and the world is not what they think it is. im not being anti-malay or insulting my own traits but this is the reality. come on man! even proton n perodua gets some special protection and previleges from the gov. like some baby who cant grow up!

Good post Azree! U have put ur foot down on a serious matter, how bout pushing a lil futher by putting it in the papers, especially when the National Front MPs are attacking Yasmin Ahmad for her 'racial advert' and also Sepet. No harm, Berani Kerana Benar. If they arrest you, I promise I will visit u weekly in Kamunting, tht is if they dont whack u and throw you into the river. But on a serious note, think bout putting it in the papers.

put it in the papers? sounds intriguing, maybe i will.. anyway, the site visit was yesterday and things turned out much better than i thought it would be, althought the tension can be felt when we initially met all the engineers in their meeting room (i dunno why they brought all their engineers out from every dept. when i had specifically mentioned in my letter that we only wanted to see escalators and elevators). the chief engineer briefed us about who's who and the restricted areas in KLIA and when he realized that we only wanted the two "E"s, he dismissed the engineers who are not needed. they all looked irritated like the sun had never shined on their faces before. but the engineers who assisted us throughout the visit were rather friendly and helpful. they explained the components in detail. all in all, im glad that it turned out to be much better than i thought it would be....
